SINFONIETTA CRACOVIA’S INTERNATIONAL CONDUCTING

MASTERCLASS WITH PROFESSOR JORMA PANULA

The Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia is pleased to announce a conducting masterclass led by internationally renowned prof. Jorma Panula, which will take place between the 12th and 17th of December 2017 in the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice (90 km from Krakow).

 

Prof. Jorma Panula’s wide experience affords him an enviable reputation as professional conductor, orchestral trainer and conducting instructor. He has worked with leading symphony orchestras in Finland and guest-conducted extensively abroad. Maestro Panula was the artistic director and chief conductor of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra from 1963 to 1965, the Helsinki Philharmonic from 1965 to 1972 and the Aarhus Symphony from 1970 to 1973. He has been a frequent guest conductor of the Finnish National Opera. Panula was Professor of Conducting at the Sibelius Academy from 1973 to 1994 and the faculties of the Stockholm Royal Academy and the Copenhagen Royal Academy. Prof. Panula has an international reputation as a leading pedagogue, and has given conducting master classes in Paris, London, Amsterdam, Moscow, NewYork and Sydney.

 

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION

 

  • Dates: 12-17 December 2017*.
  • Aplication deadline: 15 November 2017.

 

The course is open to conductors of all ages and nationalities. There will be maximum of 10 active
participants, all of which will be selected by Jorma Panula, based on the submitted application
with a video recording. The reviewed material should have a form of a short video recording of max. 10 minutes of representative conducting session led by the applicant.

 

*12 December is the date of the participants’ arrival to ECM in Lusławice. There will be an organizational meeting held in the evening. The rehearsals will start on 13 December.

 

ACTIVE PARTICIPANTS

 

Active participants will be selected by prof. Jorma Panula, based on submitted video recordings.

All participants will conduct the Orchestra of the Royal Capital City of Krakow Sinfonietta Cracovia.

Each active participant will have 20 minutes daily podium time and additionally the final concert’s participants will take part in a dress rehearsal scheduled on the day of the concert. All conducting sessions are digitally video recorded. The individual needs of each participant will be covered by personal video analysis lesson with JormaPanula.

 

Final concert’s participants will be selected by Maestro Jorma Panula. Audio and video recordings
of the rehearsals and performance will be made available to all participants once the course is finished.

 

PASSIVE PARTICIPANTS

 

Passive participants take part in all rehearsals, concerts, seminars, video analysis lessons and audio-video recording sessions organized during the course.

The organizer reserves the right to modify the repertoire.
Each active participant must prepare all the repertoire works.

All applicants must submit a brief curriculum vitae, contact details (fullname, address, phone number, e mail address) and a short video recording (YouTube/Vimeo or other streaming service link) of max. 10 minutes of representative conducting session.

ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS

 

  • Active participant’s fee includes fullboard (three meals). The organizers guarantee
    out-of-charge lodging in the Krzysztof Penderecki European Centre for Music in Lusławice for all of
    the active participants.

 

  • Passive participants are responsible for making their own arrangements for lodging and meals.
    The organiser might make the arrangements for lodging and meals for passive participants, if necessary.

 

COSTS AND PAYMENTS

 

Active participation fee – 1.300 EUR – includes:

 

  • rehearsals with the orchestra under the guidance of prof. Jorma Panula,
  • professional audio-video recordings of rehearsals and final performance,
  • personal video analysis lesson with prof. Jorma Panula,
  • all meals,
  • transfer from the airport / railway station / bus station in Krakow.

 

Organizers guarantee out-of-charge lodging in the Krzysztof Pendecki European Centre for Music
for all of the active participants.

 

Each active participant is required to make a non-refundable advance payment of 1.300 EUR
by November 29, 2017 to the following bank account:

The advance payment reserves a place in the course.

 

The advance payment should be made once the selection results are announced. Each active
participant will be informed about the results via e-mail. The fee includes all costs of the participation in the course. The reference field of the bank transfer form should indicate the participant’s
full name and an information: “Conducting Masterclass”.

 

PASSIVE PARTICIPATION FEES

 

Passive participation fee – 70 EUR – includes entry to all rehearsals, concerts, seminars, video analysis lessons and audio-video recording sessions organized during the course.
Daily fee for passive participants is 12 EUR. Payment for passive participation have to be made by December 5, 2017.

 

GETTING TO THE KRZYSZTOF PENDERECKI EUROPEAN CENTRE FOR MUSIC

 

The venue is located 90 km from Krakow. Each active participant is guaranteed
a transfer from the airport / railwaystation / bus station in Krakow to Lusławice.
